Day 2 in Paris was truly a magical one. Versailles is one of those places that you always dream of visiting, and while I could scroll through photos of this beautiful place all day long, it was absolutely breathtaking seeing the Palace in person for the first time! Walking through the gardens and pathways, and visiting the Petite Trianon was so surreal. I love art history, and it really is incredible the amount of history that lies there, and that Marie Antoinette herself walked those gardens! This Dolce and Gabbana dress is without a doubt my most favorite dress in my wardrobe, and I had been saving it for the perfect occasion. Every girl deserves to twirl through Versailles in a pretty dress!
In my previous post from The Tuileries (see here), I shared a few tips for visiting, and I wanted to do the same for Versailles! I am going to be completely honest, because not everything about traveling is glamorous! We went on a day that was HOT and very busy. While our visit really was amazing, part of me was wishing that it was a cloudy day so that I could slow down and relax in the gardens without feeling like I was melting, haha! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when visiting Versailles…
1. I would recommend visiting on a day that is cloudier (this also makes photos easier). The gardens are definitely gorgeous on a sunny day, but if so, try to choose the coolest day if possible! There is just so much ground to cover, no AC inside, and like I said, it’s a little more enjoyable when you don’t feel like you’re melting away, especially amidst a large crowd!
2. We took the RER C and it couldn’t have been easier! We got on the stop by the Eiffel Tower, and it only took about 25 minutes to get to Versailles.
3. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Just like in the Tuileries, everywhere you walk is gravel/rocky, so your shoes will get a little dusty and there is a lot of walking! Luckily we were able to take a little tram out to the Petite Trianon and back! You can also rent a golf cart or bikes!
4. We ended up being there around midday, and the line to get inside the Palace was crazy long when we first got there, even with our museum passes, so we headed out into the gardens first. After an hour or two when we headed back to the Palace, there was no line at all! I would try to be there first thing in the morning when it opens, or later in the afternoon a few hours before closing.
5. Grab some lunch and head to a bench by the Grand Canal where the little row boats are! Don’t forget some macarons and ice cream!
